Global Regulations
Below is a listing of global regulations that are approved or pending, as well as their potential impact on the market.
Country | Regulation | Status |
---|---|---|
Canada | ELD Mandate | The final rule was published 6/12/19 with a small update in 2020. In Mar '22, the CCMTA confirmed all jurisdictions supported a progressive enforcement period without penalties until 1/1/23. |
Canada | Clean Fuel Regulations | Provides incentives for the development and adoption of clean fuels. It requires gasoline and diesel suppliers to gradually reduce carbon intensity. Compliance credits can be generated. Gas and diesel requirements began Jul '23 for primary suppliers. |
Canada | Interim Order Modifying | This Order suspends GHG trailer emission standards in its HD Vehicle and Engine GHG Emissions Regulations. This is the 6th Interim Order suspending GHG trailer emissions standards in order to align with current US GHG 2 on trailers. This Interim Order lasts through 2/19/2025. |
Mexico | Revise NOM-044 HD Emissions Standards | HD vehicles would need to meet EPA 2010 or Euro VI standards. In Dec '14 Mexico SEMARNAT approved the update. The ULSD supply is key to meeting the Euro VI target. |
Mexico | Adequate supply of ULSD Fuel | A rule for PEMEX to produce, deliver, and sell ULSD outside of the country's three major cities (Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey) was delayed until 2025. This aligns with the sales restriction on non-USLD for new trucks and buses. |
Mexico | OEMs can only sell vehicles operating on ULSD starting 1/21 | This restricts sales on non-ULSD new trucks and buses. Implementation has been delayed multiple times, the argument being that the fuel is not availble everywhere in the country. The implementation date is 1/1/2025. |
